Description
The program will consist of two half days and will cover key topics in GERD and Barrett's Esophagus. The speakers will give two lectures each and then serve as panelists to an open discussion and questions and answers section. Attending physicians will have the opportunity to ask questions and present relevant cases from their own practices to the experts in a relaxed environment.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
- Review and understand the reasons for the observed increasing burden of GERD and Barrett's esophagus.
- Discuss potential strategies for disease prevention
- Describe current methods used in disease recognition, differential diagnosis and assessment.
- Discuss new promising endoscopic and physiologic modalities in GERD diagnosis and validation of disease severity
- Review and understand the histopathology of GERD.
- Outline the merits of assessment of the gastro-esophageal junction and its role in esophageal metaplasia and carcinogenesis
- Review and understand the merits and pharmacologic principles of medical therapy in GERD and Barrett's esophagus.
- Discuss the significance of the emerging potential pitfalls of long-term proton pump inhibition therapy
