| Description | Note: There is also a didactic portion only course option. It can be found here: https://www.academiceventmanagement.com/event_detail.php?id=14
This 3-day CME course will consist of didactic sessions and hands-on micro-dissection of fresh-frozen cadavers focusing on minimally invasive keyhole surgical approaches including the endonasal, supraorbital and retromastoid routes. Topics will include sinonasal anatomy and imaging, endonasal surgery to the parasellar area by both the fully endoscopic approach and endoscope-assisted approaches. Related topics will include expanded endonasal approaches to the supra-sellar and frontal fossa regions, cavernous sinus and clivus. The indications and execution of the supraorbital "eyebrow" craniotomy for frontal fossa and parasellar lesions and the retromastoid approach for cerebello-pontine and petro-clival pathology will also be presented. Additional topics in keyhole surgery will include instrumentation requirements, CSF leak repair techniques, complication avoidance and peri-operative hormonal management. |
| Objectives | 1. To learn sinonasal and skull base surgical anatomy.
2. To gain experience with minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal and endoscope-assisted approaches to the skull base and brain (sella, suprasellar, planum, cavernous sinus, clivus, paranasal sinuses).
3. To gain experience with other keyhole surgical approaches: supraorbital "eyebrow" keyhole approach to the frontal fossa and parasellar regions, and retromastoid approach for cerebello-pontine angle and petro-clival lesions.
4. To learn methods of CSF leak repair in standard and extended transsphenoidal approaches and in keyhole craniotomies.
5. To learn methods of complication avoidance in endonasal surgery and keyhole craniotomies.
