| Description | Recent epidemiological studies indicate that pituitary adenomas and related hormonal problems are much more prevalent than previously thought. There is a growing consensus amongst pituitary specialists around the world that these disorders which manifest themselves in many common ways (obesity, diabetes, hypertension, infertility, sexual dysfunction, headaches and visual loss), often go misdiagnosed or undiagnosed for many years, delaying optimal treatment.
This conference will provide internists, general practitioners, endocrinologists, obstetricians, ophthalmologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychologists and other interested health care providers with a comprehensive update on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with pituitary tumors and related hormonal disorders.
|
| Objectives | At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
* Gain awareness of the prevalence and epidemiology of pituitary tumors
* Understand pituitary tumor anatomy, imaging and histopathology
* Recognize symptoms of pituitary hormonal excess and pituitary failure
* Know current therapies of hypopituitarism
* Know current treatments for endocrine-active adenomas (acromegaly, Cushing's disease and prolactinomas)
* Understand current capabilities, indications and outcomes of endonasal pituitary surgery
* Understand indications and outcomes of radiosurgery and radiotherapy for pituitary tumors
* Understand the link between traumatic brain injury and pituitary gland dysfunction
* Appreciate the psychosocial impact of pituitary tumors and pituitary failure
