Given advances in high-definition endoscopy, refined instrumentation and surgical navigation techniques, pituitary surgery has evolved dramatically in terms of safety, efficacy and pituitary gland preservation. A live surgery will provide a limited number of participants a unique learning experience regarding the technical and anatomical nuances of modern pituitary surgery. Attendees will view the operation via large screen high definition monitors and have an ongoing dialogue with neurosurgeon Daniel Kelly and ENT surgeon Chester Griffiths. This optional pre-conference event is open for both surgeons and non-surgeons
Objectives At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
* Identify the high prevalence of pituitary adenomas in the general population
* Interpret pituitary tumor clinical presentations, relevant anatomy, imaging and histopathology
* List current treatments for acromegaly, Cushing's disease and prolactinomas
* Discuss current indications and outcomes of endonasal endoscopic pituitary surgery
* Define indications and outcomes of radiosurgery and radiotherapy for pituitary tumors
* Interpret the signs, symptoms, diagnostic workup of thyroid and parathyroid tumors
* Discuss the surgical management of thyroid and parathyroid tumors
