Description This one-day symposium covers all key topics in gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. Speakers will initially present a brief overview of the most important developments in their field in the last 12 months. Then several key abstracts from the DDW will be highlighted within each of the chosen topics presented at DDW 2009. National and regional faculty will present the latest research as well as provide additional insights regarding the impact of each study upon the care for patients within their field.
Objectives At the conclusion of the program, participants should be able to:
1. Describe key information presented at DDW that will affect clinical practice and will determine the direction of research in gastrointestinal disease for the next year
2. Define the etiology and management of GERD and Barrett's esophagus
3. Discuss the management of NSAID gastropathy, dyspepsia, ulcers, UGI bleeding
4. Review the etiology and management of celiac disease and microscopic colitis
5. Discuss the etiology and management of small bowel motility and irritable bowel
6. Identify the etiology and management of inflammatory bowel disease
7. Detect and prevent colorectal cancer
8. Describe the etiology and management of pancreatic and biliary disease
9. Identify the patient with end-stage liver disease and liver transplantation
10. Manage the patient with fatty liver, primary sclerosing cholangitis,
primary biliary cirrhosis
11. Recognize the etiology and management of HCV and HBV
12. Review new imaging techniques in gastroenterology
13. Assess the clinical impact of new endoscopic modalities for diagnosis
and therapy of GI diseases
